Your dreadlocks journey should always be top quality from making to maintenance, whether if lasts a mont or a lifetime

Dreadlocks by Meri

Hey I’m Meri,

I’ve had dreadlocks now for over 20 years. Also I’ve been making them to others for almost the same amount of time. For a long time it was just a hobby but over the years it has become my beloved work. I am a self thought dreadlock artist. I believe learning never stops and in resent years I have also taken some courses to dig deeper and keep learning more. I think its important and interesting to stay current and follow the field of dreadlocks but also hair design, fashion, trends ect. Trough all this I have accumulated a lot of knowledge on everything to do with dreadlocks.

I find it very suprising that the knowledge about dreadocks in Finland hasn’t increased much over these 20 years. Almost daily I come across wrong information, preconceptions & urban legends about dreadlocks. So now I have created this site as an effort to gather all the info, I think is important, about dreadlocks in one place. Everything on this site is written by me and based on my knowledge and experience. I understand theres many different ways to live with and make dreadlocks. Everyone has a right to have their opinions. I have done my best to explain things as well as I can. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or find some errors. I hope this site will help someone who is seeking knowledge about dreadlocks and provide a quality of service you and your dreadlocks deserve.

Dreadlocks are a lifelong decision to many, to others just a phase. To me both are equally important. Your dreadlocks journey should always be top quality from making to maintenance, whether it lasts a month or a lifetime. You need to respect yourself and your dreadlocks.

I used to work at Hiushuone Dandy but have recently fullfilled my longtime dream and opened up my own salon Dreadstory, specialised on dreadlocks! Its located at Harjutorinkatu 1, close to Sörnäinen metro station. I work there with my colleague Kati. Dreadstory is a hub for everything about dreadlocks, our cosy sanctuary, where you are always welcome! We also have a small shop where we have gathered a small selection of excellent dreadlocks products and accessories. You can also find some unique design products that we have made. In the future I hope to open a webshop, organise courses and what ever else we come up with :)

As my profession Im a Master of Art and Design. Through my company I work as Dreadlock Designer but also on the side I produce design products. Right now I mainly concentrate on jewelry, prints, fabric dyeing, of course I also make dreadlock jewelry and accessories. I also keep courses about different handcrafts and DIY projects, whenever I find time. If your are interested in my other designs your can follow my merimalmidesign profile on Instagram.

Due to my background I love to challenge myself creatively. Create cool looks, take part in different projects, and photoshoots, making music videos ect.

I also enjoy the social aspect of my work and love to hear your dread stories and interact with you guys. Hope you’ll be active on my my blog Let’s have great discussions, learn from each other. Welcome to the mysterious world of dreadlocks. Watch out, they just might become an inseparable part of you, your style, and lifestyle.

Tell me your dread dreams and lets make them reality!

In my work, I strive to offer high-quality and individual service, using natural methods, with the well-being of the customer’s hair in mind.

Hi I’m Kati.

My journey as a loctician has started with the inspiration of my friend Meri (and as a result of long-term persuasion work) in the fall of 2021. However, I have had an interest in hair, and especially in different braided hairstyles that I have made for myself and others, for as long as I can remember. I feel that the same rules apply when making locks and braids, so switching to locs felt natural.

I am a designer  by education and an occupational therapist. I mainly work as an occupational therapist and part-time with locks at Dreadstory. I have previous long work experience in customer service work in the sports industry.

When working with locks, I was inspired by the idea of working as a entreprenour, and of course working with Meri, from whom I learned how to make locks. In my work, I get to use my manual skills, creativity and problem-solving skills, which I enjoy. In my work, I strive to offer high-quality and individual service, using natural methods, with the well-being of the customer's hair in mind. I strive to expand my knowledge and deepen my skills constantly in order to maintain the quality of the service.

I feel that unique customer encounters are the best part of the job. I hope that I can offer a moment where you can just Be and Relax as you are, while I take care of your locks.
